December 2011
A very merry Christmas and prosperous New Year to everyone. We are not sending out Christmas Cards this year, but Brightred has made a donation of £1,000 to charity. The two Charities that we are supporting this year are:
Child Bereavement Charity - www.childbereavement.org.uk
The Child Bereavement Charity (CBC) is the UK's leading charity that supports families and educates professionals both when a child dies and when a child is bereaved. Currently the charity trains around 5,000 professionals each year across healthcare, social care, education, the emergency services and the voluntary sector. It also provides a national support and information service, award-winning resources, an interactive website with an online forum
for bereaved families, and Buckinghamshire-based family bereavement support.
Karen's Big Smiles Charity - www.karensbigsmiles.org
Karen's Big Smiles Charity Trust wants to help improve the lives of those with a life-limiting condition, bringing a big smile to both their faces and the faces of those who love them. They raise awareness of Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP), a rare form of cancer affecting 1 person in every million. They aim to do this by supporting local hospices such as The South Bucks Hospice, and also by encouraging people to apply for a grant, assistance or specific item through the hospices or charities such as Iain Rennie or Macmillan.
Movember News (updated) 2011
Regular readers of our News page will know we set out to grow our Mo's this month, to help raise awareness and funds for men's health and in particular, to fight Prostate Cancer. There were some hairy, not to mention hilarious moments along the way, but 30 days later the picture tells the full story.
The five members of Brightred who participated raised a total of £430 for Prostate Cancer, and offer their thanks to everyone who supported us.
Movember 2011
Most of us know friends or family who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer in the last year or more. Thankfully for the majority, it is detected early and with the correct intervention and treatment this deadly condition gets beaten. Sadly this is not always the case.
Brightred has never been big on asking for charitable donations, but as individuals we would all be very grateful if you could take a little time and donate just a small amount of money towards this great cause. In return, Brightred will match any funding donation. You will, of course, be able to enjoy watching our feeble efforts!
Now for the official bit:
It's Movember, the month formerly known as November, now dedicated to growing moustaches and raising awareness and funds for men's health; specifically prostate and testicular cancer. We at Brightred are donating our top lips to the cause for 30 days in an effort to help change the face of men's health. Our Mo’s will spark conversations, and no doubt generate some laughs; all in the name of raising vital awareness and funds for cancer's affecting men.
Why are we so passionate about men's health?
- 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
- This year 37,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed
- 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime
- 26% of men are less likely to go the doctor compared to women
We are asking you to support our Movember campaign by making a donation by either:
- Donating online at: http://mobro.co/Brightred
- If you want to go old school you can write a cheque payable to 'Movember', reference Brightred and send it to: Movember Europe, PO Box 68600, London, EC1P 1EF
If you'd like to find out more about the type of work you'd be helping to fund by supporting Movember, take a look at the Programmes We Fund section on the Movember website: http://uk.movember.com/about
Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts to change the face of men's health.
