December 2011

A very merry Christmas and prosperous New Year to everyone. We are not sending out Christmas Cards this year, but Brightred has made a donation of £1,000 to charity. The two Charities that we are supporting this year are:

Child Bereavement Charity - www.childbereavement.org.uk

The Child Bereavement Charity (CBC) is the UK's leading charity that supports families and educates professionals both when a child dies and when a child is bereaved. Currently the charity trains around 5,000 professionals each year across healthcare, social care, education, the emergency services and the voluntary sector. It also provides a national support and information service, award-winning resources, an interactive website with an online forum for bereaved families, and Buckinghamshire-based family bereavement support.

Karen's Big Smiles Charity - www.karensbigsmiles.org

Karen's Big Smiles Charity Trust wants to help improve the lives of those with a life-limiting condition, bringing a big smile to both their faces and the faces of those who love them. They raise awareness of Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP), a rare form of cancer affecting 1 person in every million. They aim to do this by supporting local hospices such as The South Bucks Hospice, and also by encouraging people to apply for a grant, assistance or specific item through the hospices or charities such as Iain Rennie or Macmillan.

Movember News (updated) 2011

Movember Regular readers of our News page will know we set out to grow our Mo's this month, to help raise awareness and funds for men's health and in particular, to fight Prostate Cancer. There were some hairy, not to mention hilarious moments along the way, but 30 days later the picture tells the full story.

The five members of Brightred who participated raised a total of £430 for Prostate Cancer, and offer their thanks to everyone who supported us.

Movember 2011

Most of us know friends or family who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer in the last year or more. Thankfully for the majority, it is detected early and with the correct intervention and treatment this deadly condition gets beaten. Sadly this is not always the case.

Brightred has never been big on asking for charitable donations, but as individuals we would all be very grateful if you could take a little time and donate just a small amount of money towards this great cause. In return, Brightred will match any funding donation. You will, of course, be able to enjoy watching our feeble efforts!

Now for the official bit:

It's Movember, the month formerly known as November, now dedicated to growing moustaches and raising awareness and funds for men's health; specifically prostate and testicular cancer. We at Brightred are donating our top lips to the cause for 30 days in an effort to help change the face of men's health. Our Mo’s will spark conversations, and no doubt generate some laughs; all in the name of raising vital awareness and funds for cancer's affecting men.

Why are we so passionate about men's health?

  • 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
  • This year 37,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed
  • 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime
  • 26% of men are less likely to go the doctor compared to women

We are asking you to support our Movember campaign by making a donation by either:

  • Donating online at: http://mobro.co/Brightred
  • If you want to go old school you can write a cheque payable to 'Movember', reference Brightred and send it to: Movember Europe, PO Box 68600, London, EC1P 1EF

If you'd like to find out more about the type of work you'd be helping to fund by supporting Movember, take a look at the Programmes We Fund section on the Movember website: http://uk.movember.com/about

Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts to change the face of men's health.

New agency worker regulations are here, and here to stay. They're complex and have far reaching implications for clients, consultancies and workers themselves.

  • We have clarified them and have attached an Agency Worker Regulations Overview which we hope you will find useful, so please feel free to download it.
  • We have also provided an Agency Worker Regulations Checklist as a download for organisations to assess their own current practices against the new legislation.

We welcome Donovan Lawrence to Brightred. He started his sales career in 1991 before moving to the technology recruitment sector in 1995. This is the reason I believe in the continued growing success and reputation of Brightred compared to our competitors''.

July 2011

Andrew Green July has been the month for development, both for individuals and the company as a whole. Andrew Green and Mark Magaziner have both taken on additional responsibilities for client development.

Andrew is focusing his expertise on our existing client portfolio, looking at how he and the team can develop relationships and add value to those clients and their own resourcing plans.

Meanwhile Mark is turning his attention to seeking and landing new clients, expanding our client base and seeking new assignment work for the team.

Mark Magaziner

MD Michael Allen commented: "By giving Andrew and Mark clear and measurable objectives for client development, we focus key talent on business and revenue generation for the benefit of the whole business, and at a time of continued success."

Mark Humes This month has seen another new starter at Brightred, with the arrival of Mark Humes. Mark brings a strong technical background and qualifications, and will use these skills & experiences to the advantage of our clients with the range of assignments he will undertake at Brightred.

Mark followed an early interest in IT as a child by building his first PC while still at school, then going on to study IT at College. His career prior to joining Brightred was mainly with Fujitsu, where he was employed as Team Manager on their IT Service Desk, providing support to the Ministry of Defence and their IT systems.

By way of a nice contrast, he took a part-time job as a poker dealer whilst at College to help fund his studies, and that interest continues to this day, having been boosted by several trips to Las Vegas where, sadly, he has yet to make his fortune.

MD, Michael Allen, is delighted to welcome Mark to the team;  "Mark has shown a real passion for delivering great service in his career to date. Moving to Brightred is a major change in career for Mark and we are happy to support his ambitions. His knowledge of our clients' technical environment aligned to his passion and enthusiasm will add real value to both clients and candidates."

"I am very grateful for the opportunity to join Brightred. There is so much passion and energy in this organisation it is really engaging. I look forward developing my skills, contributing positively to the organisation, and really enjoying my future at Brightred."

After the long week he relaxes with a bottle of wine and a good book...and in his mad moments is learning to wakeboard... "When it get's a bit warmer", he joked!

May 2010

Michael Allen has just been inducted as a Freeman of The Information Technologists' Company (www.wcit.org.uk) a membership organisation staffed by IT professionals who have all joined to give something back to the IT sector and the wider community. Michael sees this as an ideal opportunity to align the values of Brightred with a commitment to support charities and educational programmes.
